For me, portraiture is an amazing and complex experience. The interaction between artist and sitter is quite unique and endlessly fascinating to experience. When a portrait is successful, the entire conversation of that process is laid out to be absorbed.
I have been making artistic impressions from peoples faces since I can remember, but it was at Core Arts mental health centre that I really began to explore what it is to paint someones portrait. Hosting weekly portrait painting classes for a number of years was an amazing opportunity to develop my technique and also connect with a community of amazing and supportive artists from a world I really had no idea about. The personalities in that building are kind and fantastic, they are equally as brilliant to teach as they are to paint.
